Let me introduce you to our wonderful staff . . .

Dean George Grant Jr. assumed the position of the Dean of College of Community and Public Service on July 1, 2008. Dr. Grant's previous service to the University includes Professor of Social Work, Director of the BSW Program, MSW Program, and Unit Head. Before coming to GVSU Dr. Grant worked with numerous community service programs including Bethany Christian Services, and D.A. Blodgett Services for Children and Families.  His primary interest is Child Welfare, where he has produced research, trainings, publications, and presentations, and has provided consultation to public and private agencies. He has a commitment to community service and has served on several boards and community projects. Dr. Grant brings an insightful perspective and has served GVSU since 2003.

Dr. William Crawley assumed the position of the Associate Dean of the College of Community and Public Service on May 6, 2009.  He holds two undergraduate degrees – a B.S. in Resource Management from Iowa State University and a B.A. from the University of Iowa in Asian Studies and Japanese Language.  As part of his second undergraduate degree, Dr. Crawley studied and developed an expertise in Asian organized crime. After graduation, he lived in Yamatoshi, Japan, where he studied the Japanese criminal justice system.

Dr. Crawley continued his education at the University of South Carolina, receiving a Masters degree in Criminal Justice and a Graduate Certification in Drug & Alcohol Studies with an emphasis in Neuro-Psyho-Pharmacology. Thereafter, he completed his doctoral studies in Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska.  During this same time period, he worked as a Coordinator for a Department of Justice research and intelligence initiative entitled Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring Program (ADAM).  As part of this work, across a four year period Dr. Crawley conducted and directly supervised, more than 3,000 criminal interviews.

Dr. Crawley's research interests center on Criminal Theory, Comparative and Transnational Crime, Drug Market Dynamics and Intelligence, Addiction Behaviors and Need for Treatment.  Dr. Crawley has been extensively involved in translational research initiatives linking criminal justice and community-based organizations for more than a decade (e.g., ADAM, Project Safe Neighborhoods, Weed & Seed, Michigan Intelligence Operations Center) and often involves graduate and undergraduate students in such efforts.

Valorie (a.k.a. Val) has been a dedicated employee of GVSU since 1992.  She began her career in the Management Department of the Seidman College of Business (then Seidman College of Business.)  Her organizational skills, knowledge of the University and technology savvy makes her invaluable to the Dean's Office. Val enjoys a variety of different past times including reading, going for long walks with her husband (and usually their two dogs as well), golfing, working around the house and spending time with her four grandchildren.

Teresa joined the College of Community and Public Service Dean's Office staff in October of 2008.   She brings with her several years of experience to the GVSU DeVos campus, as she has previously served GVSU in the Seidman College of Business Dean's Office since 2002.  She holds an Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Grand Rapids Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in General Education from Aquinas College.  She is currently pursuing a Master Degree at GVSU.  Outside of her position here at GVSU, she is a 1st Dan Black Belt in Chung Do Kwon Tae Kwon Do, is teaching and training in professional ballroom dancing, and is learning to golf this year.  She enjoys spending as much time as possible with her family and friends.

Viniece has been a student staff member with CCPS since the Winter of 2009. She is working to obtain an undergraduate degree at GVSU that will lead her to a career in Film Production. She is from Muskegon, where her family still resides.  Her previous work before joining CCPS includes striving to solve poverty in the Muskegon Community by volunteering for Muskegon Oceana CAAP. She enjoys playing tennis and golf and has received awards for both sports.

Tiarra has been a student staff member with CCPS since the Fall of 2008.  She is a working to obtain an undergraduate degree at GVSU that will lead her to a path to get her Law degree.  Ultimately, she would like to have a career as a Corporate Lawyer.  She grew up in Detroit, MI and visits her friends and family during the holidays.
