About VUB

GVSU received a $1.3 million, five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to establish a TRIO Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) program, providing free academic support to veterans to enroll in postsecondary education (degree or vocational/technical programs). 


  • Must have completed 180 days of service (discharged after 1/31/55).
  • Must have a discharge other than dishonorable.
  • Must not have completed a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must reside in Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, or Allegan county. 

Policies and Fees

Free. This is an open enrollment and open departure program which means that participation is voluntary with no financial commitments or charges. Course materials and supplies included.
