United Kingdom: University of Brighton (Semester/Year)

Brighton is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with great architectural character, and a lively atmosphere. The city is only an hour from London and half an hour from Gatwick Airport. The town offers a range of diverse entertainment - Theatre Royal, Brighton Centre, Gardner Arts Centre, and the Dome theatre.

Brighton Business School is based at Mithras House on the outskirts of Brighton and covers a range of business subject areas including: business strategy, accounting, economics, finance, operations management, marketing, business information, law, human resource management, management development, and innovation management. This program is best suited towards students who have been admitted into the Seidman College of Business. Students are only allowed to take courses through the Brighton Business School. This exchange offers students a full immersion into a UK University for either one semester or an academic year.

This program requires students to exercise a high degree of independence, self-reliance, and flexibility. While there are basic support services available through this program, participants should not expect to receive the same level and types of support they are accustomed to at GVSU.

Visa Requirements

Students applying for one semester at University of Brighton can enter the UK as a student visitor without securing a student visa prior to departure (some restrictions do apply). A student visa is required for students who will study at the University of Brighton for the academic year or longer than 6 months. The student visa guide provides information regarding the visa application process for both semester and academic-year students. Please note that the appropriate consulate or embassy must be consulted for the most up-to-date visa information.

Arrival Information

BEFORE YOU BOOK YOUR TICKET:

You cannot enter the UK on a flight via Ireland because you will not receive the correct stamp in your passport to validate your student visa. More information about this is available from the UK Council of International Student Affairs https://www.ukcisa.org.uk/Information--Advice/Visas-and-Immigration/Arriving-via-Ireland#layer-3648

The main airports in the South East region are London Gatwick and London Heathrow. London Gatwick is closest to Brighton (approximately 30 mins by road) whereas Heathrow is further away on the west outskirts of London (approximately 1 ½ hrs by road). You can then travel to Brighton from either airport by either coach or train.

National Express coaches run from both Gatwick and Heathrow and tickets can be booked on their website www.nationalexpress.co.uk

Direct trains run from Gatwick to Brighton regularly via Southern Railway (www.southernrailway.com) and the Gatwick Express (www.gatwickexpress.co.uk) whereas you can travel from London Heathrow through London on the Underground (www.tfl.gov.uk) and then take a Southern Railway train from London Victoria train station.
