Criminal Justice in Japan - Summer 2027

Hikone, Japan - Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU)

We will explore the criminal justice system and Japanese culture that keeps Japan one of the safest countries in the world. We will explore and learn Japanese culture and history in the classroom setting and through cultural events and field trips to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Hiroshima. Subject to availability, we will visit various criminal justice entities, including policing organizations, court, a prison, and a juvenile detention center. We also plan to visit an elementary school to explore Japanese education and its relations to social control and culture. This course is open to all majors, including undergraduate and graduate students. No Japanese language skills are required.
