Direct Enrollment
Grand Valley State University encourages students to participate in one of its approved study abroad programs whenever possible. Approved programs have been carefully reviewed for academic quality, student support, health and safety, and student success.
Direct enrollment opportunities require students to work independently with an overseas institution and often involve significantly greater responsibility for academics, housing, transportation, and other logistical arrangements. Because of these additional responsibilities, direct enrollment is considered only in exceptional circumstances.
Students interested in a direct enrollment opportunity must first meet with a Study Abroad Advisor to discuss their academic goals, personal circumstances, and available approved program options.
During this meeting, the advisor will determine whether an approved GVSU program can reasonably meet the student's needs. If not, the advisor may recommend that the student submit a Direct Enrollment Exception Request for review by the Director of Study Abroad and International Partnerships.
Approval of an exception request is not guaranteed.
