Cost Breakdown for the University of Brighton

This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your semester or year abroad. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of financial aid that can be awarded to you by GVSU. This total program cost does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, rather, it serves as the cap on what can be awarded.

IS 380 Course Fee

Paid to GVSU. The course fee for IS 380 is $27 per credit hour. Participants on this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Health Insurance/ISIC

Paid to insurance provider of your choosing if you are not already covered by a health insurance policy. The Basic ISIC card is $28 and meets the PIC insurance requirement.

Housing (on-campus residence halls)

Paid to University of Brighton. Approx. 120-160 GBP per week for self-catering. Meal plans are available if students are interested. Housing does not include bed linen, pillows, blankets, towels, cutlery, plates, etc. Rates vary based on semester and length of stay.

$16,451-$21,923 (estimate for out-of-state students who do not receive a tuition differential scholarship)

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship towards the cost of this program. Exception: International students will not have access to the tuition differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad, however, they may still be eligible for the Study Abroad Grant.

 

*Based on 2017-2018 in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

**The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.

 

Padnos International Center will be providing (2) $1000 Partnership Grants for the 2017-18 academic year. If more than two students apply for this program, decisions on awards will be based on the strength of a student’s application and financial need. Students may be eligible for more than $1000, but two applicants will receive a minimum of $1000 in grant support. Decisions on awards will be made following the application deadline. Additional information is available on the PIC website under "Financial Planning".

Housing rates vary based on the length of time you are abroad and your housing selection. Prices quoted above reflect on-campus housing options only.

The exchange rate from USD to the GBP fluctuates daily. Significant changes in the exchange rate could impact the estimated costs above. The exchange rate used in the above calculations was 1 GBP = $1.30 USD which is the current rate in July 2017.
