2023/24 Cost Breakdown for Middle East Technical University (METU)

This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your semester or year abroad. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of financial aid that can be awarded to you by GVSU. This total program cost does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, rather, it serves as the cap on what can be awarded.

IS 380 Course Fee

Paid to GVSU. The course fee for IS 380 is $28 per credit hour. Participants on this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Chubb Health Insurance

The Chubb health insurance plan is mandatory for all study abroad students. The cost is $1.91 per day. This estimate reflects 120 days, but the actual number of days of the program may differ.

Passport/Visa/Res Permit

Passport fees are $200. Visa fees for Turkey are subject to change. The current amount is approx. $60. The residence permit is currently approx. $80.

Flight & Ground transportation

Paid to Airline Provider. Students will either take a taxi directly to METU or take the bus to Ankara Central Station and then a second bus to METU. Taxi service is more convenient, but much more expensive. Students on a budget can consider taking the bus.

Housing

(students may be responsible for required security deposits which will be paid to METU)

Housing in shared accommodation is included in program fee. Students may still be responsible for required deposits. Students requesting a single room or a unit with more amenities may be required to pay an additional amount.

(METU estimates that the average students spends around 400-700 Euro total per month on food, local transport and personal expenses.)

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship towards the cost of this program. Exception: International students will not have access to the tuition differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad, however, they may still be eligible for the Study Abroad Grant.

Estimated costs are based on a rate of exchange of 1 TRY = 0.047 USD. Exchange rates fluctuate and may impact the estimates listed above. The rate listed here is the rate as of June 2023.

 

 

 

*Based on in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credit above 15 will be billed to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

**The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.

 

The Padnos International Center will be providing Partnership Grants for the 2023/24 academic year (excludes summer). Decisions on awards will be made following the deadline for applications. Some conditions apply.
