Cost Breakdown for Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg (DHBW) Engineering Co-Op

This is the estimated budget for this study abroad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your
semester or year abroad. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds,
scholarships, grants, and alternative loans. The total amount listed as the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount
of financial aid that can be awarded to you by GVSU. This total program cost does not reflect the amount of aid you
will qualify for, rather, it serves as the cap on what can be awarded.

Chubb Insurance

GVSU requires all study abroad participants to purchase the Chubb International Insurance policy. The cost of coverage is determined on a per-day basis and varies depending on the total length of the program. The total insurance charge will reflect the actual number of days of participation. The cost for the visa is currently around 80 Euro ($80 USD) +  est. 75 Euro ($75 US) for a work permit

Required German Health insurance

DHBW requires all students to purchase
health insurance in Germany (approx. $110 Euro per month or $110 USD). In
addition, students must show proof of emergency evacuation/repatriation
insurance which is included in the mandatory Chubb policy required by GVSU

 

Meals

Based on $400 - $500 per month for 4 months. This amount will vary based on length of stay.

Housing

$2,100 - $3,500

Housing costs are based on 300 - 500 Euro ($300-$500 USD) per month for 4 months. Students will also have to pay a deposit equal to two months rent which is included in this estimate.

Books & Supplies

On-site personal expenses associated with local transportation not provided by the program, laundry and other basic necessities. Based on $450 per month x 4 months.

$12,247 - $13,047** based on 14 weeks  (avg. cost = $12,647 minus the co-op stipend of 700 Euro ($700 USD) for 3.5 months = $10,197 + Insurance )

Students typically earn a stipend of about 700 Euro per month during their co-op which can be put towards the cost of in-country living expenses.

$11,883 (estimated cost for out-of-state students who do not receive a tuition differential scholarship) + Insurance

The cost estimates for this program may vary based on your actual co-op location.

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship
towards the cost of this program. Exception: International students will not have access to the tuition
differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad.
