Communication Sciences and Disorders Abroad
Having the opportunity to study abroad as a Communication Sciences and Disorders major will allow students to experience the global speech and language disorders practices from unique perspectives. Use this opportunity to grow as an individual and as a professional in this field. Whether you are taking General Education courses or courses more specific to Communication Sciences and Disorders, the benefit will always outweigh the costs. Another option may be to experience study abroad through Service Learning or Internship opportunities.
Specific CSD courses can be found at only a few universities that offer a major in a related field. Below are a few universities that have some courses that may be relevant. Otherwise, taking courses in the Speech-Language Pathology major might offer a little more flexibility.

Academic Advice
- The earliest you can go abroad is the summer of your first year.
- Department input requested
- Courses specific to Communication Sciences and Disorder are a little harder to find compared to more general courses. It is highly recommended that you study abroad sooner than later and focus on General Education courses and lower level AHS courses to keep options open. The first two years of courses offer a lot more flexible options for study abroad.
- Students may fulfill General Education Foundation and Issues requirements abroad
- Students taking at least 3 credits abroad will fulfill their Global Perspectives requirement
- Students should be working with their faculty mentor to plan and make appropriate course selections for study abroad.
- Courses will be reviewed on a case by case basis through the course equivalency process.
- SLP 405 will be review case-by-case basis.

Once you have selected a program, schedule a meeting with your academic advisor to discuss your plans.
Keep in Mind
- Once you have selected a program, be sure to meet with your adviser at least three months prior to departing for your program.
- Be sure to explore both GVSU and Provider options by browsing the Program Suggestions below. Students are not limited to GVSU study abroad programs.
- There are several opportunities to intern and/or volunteer while abroad.
- Students are also able to fulfill General Education requirements abroad, including their General Education Issues requirement.
