2023/24 Cost Breakdown for Cracow University of Economics

This is the estimated budget for this study aborad program. It serves as an estimated cost of attendance for your study abroad program. Students often pay for study abroad through a combination of financial aid, personal funds, scholarships, grants and alternative loans. The total amount listed in the Total Program Cost is the maximum amount of aid you can receive from GVSU. This estimated cost of attendance does not reflect the amount of aid you will qualify for, simply the cap on much could be awarded to you.

GVSU Tuition (12-15 credits)


*Tuition based on 2022-2023 upper-level in-state tuition rates (12-15 credits). Out-of-state students will pay the out-of-state tuition rate

Paid to Grand Valley State University Student Accounts by the GVSU regular tuition payment deadline.

IS 380 Course Fee


Paid to GVSU. The IS 380 course fee is $28 per credit hour. Participants of this program will register for 12 credits of IS 380.

Chubb insurance


The CHUBB insurance plan is mandatory for all study abroad students. The cost is $1.46 per day. This estimate reflects 137 days, but the actual number of days of this program may differ.  Students should carefully review the medical insurance requirement for the visa to make sure the Chubb policy will meet this requirement.

Passport & Visa


Passport fees $200. Visa for Poland currently $84 (subject to change) Students may incur an additional charge for the residence permit once in Poland (est. $150). Travel expenses to secure visa in Chicago $100.

Housing (off-campus apartment)

Housing costs are paid directly to your landlord. You may be required to pay a deposit. The average deposit is equal to rent for two months. The rent per month is typically between $600-$850 USD or (600-850 Euro) Based on 5 months even though the semester is 4.5 months

On-site estimate for meals for 5 months, $350 - $555 per month.

Personal Expenses


On-site personal expenses including costs for local transportation, cell phone purchase, and basic necessities. Based on 5 months approx. $500 per month or $125/week

$21,566*** (Estimate for out-of-state students who do not receive a tuition differential scholarship. This figure includes the Polish government stipend which is around $280 per month, approx. $1260 per semester.)

Exchange rate used: 1 USD = 4.16 Polish Zloty

Out-of-state students who receive a GVSU tuition differential scholarship will be able to use that scholarship towards the cost of this program. Exception: international students will not have access to the tuition differential scholarship for use towards the cost of study abroad, however, they may still be eligible for the Partnership Grant.

* Based on in-state, upper-division tuition rates for 12-15 credits. If you complete more than 15 GVSU credits during your semester abroad, tuition charges for the additional credits above 15 will be added to your GVSU student account after you return and PIC completes the transfer of credit.

** The cost of any study abroad program depends to a large extent on the participant’s personal spending habits and lifestyle. Personal travel, entertainment, gifts, souvenirs, and other types of personal spending are costs not reflected in the above estimates.

NOTE: A stipend is provided by Cracow University of Economics for you to pay for food, housing and some misc. living expenses. The stipend is based on the Polish Government rate and is approximately 1300 zloty per month (approx. $280 USD/month) (subject to change). GVSU students typically live in a local apartment. The cost of an apartment varies by location and desired amenities.
