GVSU Mourns the Loss of Margaret Sellers Walker Morris

The family of Margaret Sellers Walker Morris announced that she departed her earthly life on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

A former resident of Grand Rapids, Margaret passed peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, Florida. Mrs. Margaret Sellers Walker Morris served as the chief examiner and director of human resources for the City of Grand Rapids. She was promoted to Assistant City Manager for Administrative and Cultural Services. In 1993, she joined the faculty at Grand Valley State University in the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration and was tenured as an Associate Professor. She also served at GVSU as Associate Director of the Dorothy A. Johnson Nonprofit Leadership.

Mrs. Sellers Walker Morris is remembered locally for her volunteer service as a member of a number of boards and advisory committees, including a member of the Fifth Third Bank Board of Directors, Bank of Michigan; the Grand Rapids Community Foundation Board of Trustees; a member of the boards of Dwelling Place, Inc., Hope Network Inc., and Clark Retirement Community. She also served as a member and trustee of New Hope Baptist Church and a member of the Grand Rapids Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., a public service sorority.
