GVSU Mourns the Loss of Edwin Joseph

Edwin Joseph, former GVSU Geography professor, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on July 26, 2018. During his time as a professor at Grand Valley, Edwin was a primary author of the GIS minor, and taught cultural geography, engaging his students by cooking food native to the cultures under discussion.

Professor Edwin Joseph passed away Thursday, 7/26/2018.  Edwin was a Professor of Geography and Sustainable Planning and Environmental Studies minor during his tenure at GVSU (2001 – 2011). He has most recently been affiliated with Indiana University at South Bend, Indiana.  

Edwin Joseph was an outstanding environmental educator, passionate about fighting poverty and food insecurity, climate change,  and applications of  geospatial technology. He has made tremendous contributions to development of GVSU geography, urban planning, GIS, and environmental studies programs and inspired thousands of  students and faculty worldwide. He will always be remembered by us as a great teacher, talented musician, and amazing friend. Edwin Joseph will be missed by many.

Jann Joseph has planned a reception in Grand Rapids to remember Edwin Joseph on Saturday, August 18 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Campau Room, Plaza Towers Condominiums, 160 Campau Circle, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
