Faculty for Respiratory Care, B.S.
Ann Flint, EdD, RRT
Ann Flint is an Assistant Professor in the Allied Health Sciences Department at Grand Valley State University. Her professional background is in respiratory care and education. Her career began through respiratory care program completion (Carteret Community College in North Carolina) and national certification through the National Board of Respiratory Care. She worked as a respiratory therapist for 27 years, most of it at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. Ann taught respiratory care concurrently for much of that time at various Michigan colleges.
Ann earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Education from the University of Michigan and continued by completing a Master of Science in Occupational Education at Ferris State University. She also earned her EdD in Community College Leadership from FSU.
Her work as a Respiratory Care Director at Jackson College began with developing that program and gaining initial (and ultimately ten-year) accreditation from the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC). During her time there, Ann participated in the TAACCCT (Trade Adjustment Assistance for Community Colleges and Career Training) grant-writing team that brought in $590,000 worth of ventilators, making the JC Respiratory Care lab one of the best-equipped in the region. Ann had also served as Director of Clinical Education at Washtenaw Community College and Ferris State University, bringing her to 30 total years in respiratory care education. Ann is also a member of the American Society for Respiratory Care, along with serving in many posts with the Michigan Society for Respiratory Care.
Ann’s interests include health care disparities, respiratory care advancement programs, research, ethics, mentoring students, and recruitment and retention of underrepresented first-generation college students.
