Application Preparation

   

RESEARCH

Review the position description.

Talk to current GVSU RAs about their experience.

PREPARE

Review the selection process timeline. NOTE: Absolutely no late or incomplete applications will be considered.

Prepare your resume. Have a Career Center staff member look it over to make sure it's properly formatted and checked for spelling and grammar.

Draft your essay question responses to copy and paste into the application form.

APPLY

Submit the New RA Application. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email from [email protected].


First Year RA Application Essay Questions

Answers should be from your own experience and voice. Please do not use ChatGPT or other AI tools to write your answers. 

1. Why do you want to be a Resident Assistant and what experience do you have that would help you be successful in the role?

2. What aspects of the RA position are you most excited about? What aspects are you more nervous or anxious about? 

​​​​​​​3. Define what belonging means to you and why building an inclusive community for residents is important. 


CANDIDATE CHECKLIST

 

- Did you review the position description, talk with a current RA, attend an RA Interest Session in your community or on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 7-9pm in Holton-Hooker.

- Did you submit the RA Application and receive an RA Application Confirmation e-mail?
