Paul Isely

Paul Isely began his appointment as Associate Vice President for Strategic Budget Management in February 2026.

Prior to serving in the Office of the Provost, Dr. Isely was Associate Dean and Professor of Economics for Grand Valley State University's Seidman College of Business. He joined as faculty in 1995 after earning his Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue University. He also holds an M.S. in Economics from Purdue University and a dual B.S. in Physics and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Since arriving at Grand Valley State University in 1995, Dr. Isely has taught over 4,000 students and more than 100 classes.  He has published peer review journal articles, local articles, research reports and grant reports, and made hundreds of presentations on the West Michigan economy. 

Dr. Isely is also active in public service.  He serves as chair of the Utility Consumer Participation Board; an appointment made by Michigan Governors Rick Snyder and Gretchen Whitmer.
