Bowen and Boss Named 2021-22 Batchelder Scholars

The Political Science Department is pleased to recognize Rebekkah Bowen and Kylie Boss as our Batchelder Scholars for the 2021-2022 school year. Generously funded by the Batchelder family, the Batchelder Political Science Scholarship honors Professor John Thayer Batchelder, who taught political science at GVSU from 1969 until his retirement in 1997. Professor Batchelder’s enthusiasm for international culture and political affairs, passion for adventure, and his belief that direct experience enhances student learning, led him to lead multiple study abroad programs, including one that gave over 80 students the opportunity to study in Russia and Poland from 1976-1990.

Rebekkah Bowen is a junior double majoring in History and Political Science with a minor in German. Rebekkah has served as an RA and desk assistant at GVSU. She is also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society and Phi Sigma Pi Honors Fraternity. After graduating from GVSU, Rebekkah hopes to join AmeriCorps and then pursue a Master’s in public policy or public and non-profit administration.

Kylie Boss is a sophomore majoring in political science and double-minoring in Spanish and international relations. At Grand Valley, she loves engaging in her political science classes with debates and new topics, challenging her to be a better student and thinker. Kylie also loves to travel and learn more about different cultures. This summer, she plans on interning with Ottawa County Democrats, and then in the fall, she plans on studying abroad in Cusco, Peru. Kylie is very excited about what the future holds!
