Director Paul Leidig Awarded the Fellow of CSAB Designation

Dr. Paul Leidig, professor and director of the School of Computing, has been recognized as a Fellow of CSAB, the lead society for accreditation of degree programs in computer science, information systems, software engineering, information technology, cybersecurity and data science.  The CSAB Fellow Award is given in recognition of individuals who have given sustained, quality service to the computing profession and to computing education through the activities of CSAB.

Dr. Leidig was recognized for his leadership as CSAB Criteria Committee Chair, his championing of data science program accreditation, and his efforts to bring the American Statistical Association into the CSAB family.

CSAB has responsibility for the development of accreditation criteria and for the selection, training, and assignment of program evaluators within ABET, a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that accredits college and university programs in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.

Paul has been a member of the CSAB Board of Directors representing ACM for the past six years, is a Member-at-Large of the ACM Education Board, and Chairs the ACM Data Science Task Force and the Information Systems IS2020 Task Force. Paul has led CSAB’s Criteria Committee since 2018. During his tenure, in addition to the evolution of Data Science accreditation, criteria for two-year Cybersecurity programs have been developed, and IT program criteria were updated. This fall, Paul will be seated as a CSAB Delegate on the ABET Board of Delegates, the Computing Area Delegation, and the Applied and Natural Sciences Area Delegation. He is currently Professor and Director of the School of Computing at Grand Valley State University.

CSAB represents the interests of the computing profession with respect to ABET accreditation of programs in computer science, information systems, information technology, and software engineering. ABET is the organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation for its leadership and quality assurance in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology education.  ABET’s membership is composed of 33 professional societies including CSAB.
