2026 East Kentwood Animal Prosthetics Camp

In July 2026, PCE Outreach coordinated the East Kentwood Animal Prosthetics Camp. This camp introduced 40 East Kentwood elementary students to biomedical engineering!
Students first explored how prosthetics support movement. Using PVC pipes and padding, students collaborated with their counselors to experience some of the challenges prosthetic users may encounter. Students then applied what they learned by designing prosthetics for stuffed animals, including a toucan, duck, dolphin, and dog. Students also explored joint movement by building paper hands with pipe cleaners and straws.
