GVSU Hosts FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) West Michigan District Event
August 07, 2026
On March 27–28, 2026, GVSU welcomed the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) West Michigan District Event to the Fieldhouse on Valley Campus.
A FIRST Robotics Competition consists of short games played by autonomous and remote-controlled robots. This year, teams were challenged to design a robot that could collect and score yellow balls (or “fuel”) into tall goals (or “hubs”). During the first 20 seconds of the game, robots moved around the field autonomously. For the next 140 seconds of the game, competitors controlled their robots.
PCE Outreach represented GVSU at the event by creating robotics-themed pins, interacting with students, and showcasing the engineering programs and opportunities at GVSU. This year, the District Event hosted 40 teams and 2400 attendees, and 150 volunteers gave their time and energy at the event. 20% of the volunteers were GVSU Engineering students or alumni!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the PCE Outreach table and made this year’s District Event a success!
