SSD 2027: Reimagining the Purpose of Our Scholarship

The Center for Student Research and Scholarly Engagement (CSRSE), the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) and the Student Scholars Day Planning Committee are delighted to welcome you to the 31st annual Student Scholars Day conference. This year’s theme invites students to explore how academic knowledge can inspire, educate and catalyze when it is shared beyond traditional boundaries and platforms, and how it can contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs name shared global priorities, including ending poverty, ensuring quality education and good health, advancing equity, and protecting the planet. Student Scholars Day challenges presenters to reflect upon the goals and impacts of their research, not just as contributions to their field, but as accessible, engaging, and empowering information for audiences beyond academia. We invite presenters to consider which SDGs their work addresses and how their scholarship might help build a more just and sustainable world. Whether through posters, oral presentations, or zines, participants are encouraged to creatively communicate their work to those outside their discipline, making scholarship a bridge rather than a barrier.

Student Scholars Day 2027 will be on Wednesday, April 14, 2027, on GVSU’s Valley Campus. We hope to welcome you once again to this celebration of our students’ scholarship, research and creative work.

National Conference on Undergraduate Research*

*GVSU is hosting the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at DeVos Place that same week. NCUR is a separate event with its own registration, and SSD has not been combined with it. As a bonus, all registered SSD presenters and mentors will have access to the NCUR plenary sessions. More information will be available in February.

What is Student Scholars Day?

Student Scholars Day (SSD) celebrates scholarship, research, and creative work performed by GVSU students. Now in its 31st year, SSD began as a single-day research symposium and has evolved into a multi-day event that celebrates the scholarly process and showcases faculty-mentored student work. Student presentations will be on Wednesday, April 14, 2027, on GVSU’s Valley Campus. A full schedule of events for SSD 2027 will be available in advance of the event. This event is coordinated by the Center for Student Research and Scholarly Engagement (CSRSE).
