MIPERC Interprofessional Simulation Design Competition

The MIPERC Interprofessional Simulation Design Competition is a collaborative competition for students and healthcare professionals challenging participants to demonstrate their skills in developing an interprofessional healthcare related simulation. The top design entries from both the student and health professional teams (as chosen by the MIPERC Simulation Workgroup) will be implemented during one of the MIPERC PIPES simulation events. First place winners will also be invited to present a poster at the 2018 MIPERC conference held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA.

Eligibility Criteria:

Student Teams:  Students must be registered for at least one college/university course during the 2017-2018 academic year.  Teams must be comprised of students from at least two different health-related academic disciplines. Participation in this competition does qualify as a capstone project for those students enrolled in the MIPERC IPE Certificate Program.

  • Minimum number of students per team: 2
  • Maximum number of students per team: 5
  • One team advisor is required.  An Advisor may be recruited by the student team or one will be assigned to the team by competition organizers. 

Health Professional Teams:  Teams must be comprised of professionals from at least two different health-related professions. 

  • Minimum number of professionals per team: 2
  • Maximum number of professionals per team: 5
  • No team advisor is required.  If desired, one will be provided upon request.

As a Team Advisor you are an essential component in guiding the team through the design process as well as making sure they meet deadlines.  

Eligibility Criteria:

Professional health-related community member with experience in simulation.

University faculty/staff members with experience in simulation.


Prize Information

Student Teams

1st Prize - $500 and the opportunity for the team's simulation design to be implemented during one of the PIPES events.  The winning team will also be invited to present their simulation design as a poster presentation at the 2018 MIPERC Conference in Grand Rapids, MI.

2nd Prize - $250 and the opportunity for the team's simulation designed to be implemented during one of the PIPES events.

3rd Prize - $100 and the opportunity for the team's simulation designed to be implemented during one of the PIPES events.

Health Professional Teams

1st Prize- The winning team's simulation design will be implemented at one of the PIPES events.  The teams will also be invited to present their simulation design as a poster presentation at the 2018 MIPERC Conference in Grand Rapids, MI.
