Course Reserve Instructions

Course Reserve makes specific readings available to students in either hard copy or electronic format. By using Course Reserve, students will not have to pay for course packs and can access the many readings for free online. Faculty will not have to handle copyright compliance and fees.

Late Fees

Although many reserve items are available online, some are only available as short-term loans. The maximum late fee for course reserve materials is $5.00.


For Faculty

What items can I place on reserve?

Items that can be placed on reserve include:

  • Full-text articles, music, and videos from library databases
  • Items owned by the University Libraries
  • Student work
  • Books, original DVDs or CDs (not copies), or other items that you own and/or authored

Adding items to Reserves

Items owned by the library or available electronically: In Course Reserve, select the class or create a new one, and then select "Add Reserve Items." If you experience any difficulties, you may e-mail the citation, file or URL to ereserve@gvsu.edu. Please include the full citation, originating database, and GVSU class (name and number).

Items you own: In Course Reserve, add the item to your class as above. Complete a Course Reserve Submission Form and turn it in with the materials at Mary Idema Pew Library in Allendale, Steelcase Library in DeVos, or Frey Foundation Learning Center in CHS.

Student papers: In Course Reserve, add the item to your class as above. Complete a Student Paper Permission Form and turn it in with the materials at Mary Idema Pew Library in Allendale, Steelcase Library in DeVos, or Frey Foundational Learning Center in CHS.

What else should I know?

You can link to items placed on Course Reserve in your Blackboard site. Contact Course Reserve at 616-331-2617 or ereserve@gvsu.edu for help in adding items.

The library will pay the first $30.00 of copyright fees when incurred after first time, fair use. The library staff handles all copyright compliance issues.
