LAS Student Grants
Supporting Student Scholarship
The Latin American and Latino/a Studies Gift Fund supports the scholarly and professional development of students minoring in Latin American and Latino/a Studies.
Students may apply for up to $500 of financial support for activities related to their Latin American and Latino/a Studies goals. This includes activities such as academic conferences, study abroad, internships, research projects, or student-faculty collaborative research projects. If you are uncertain about whether you may qualify for these funds, please reach out to the Latin American and Latino/a Studies coordinator to ask.
How to Apply
Students may apply at any time by providing a
- Brief proposal (1-2 pages) describing the activity in need of funding. The proposed activity must be related to the study of Latin America, the Caribbean, or issues related to Latinos/as in the United States.
- Budget that outlines how the money will be used. Please include any other potential sources of funding (other scholarships, grants, etc.)
- Supporting document for the activity, such as an internship acceptance letter, a conference program, capstone assignment proposal, etc.
- Letter of support from a GVSU faculty member who is not a sitting member of the LAS Executive Committee.
Students who receive this funding are expected to send a 1-page summary of their funded activity and how it benefitted their studies.
