What to expect as a Committee Member

As a member of the LAAN Tech Committee, your role is to advocate for and elevate technology needs that can effectively support the work of academic advisors throughout the university. Your expertise and input are valuable in reviewing new technologies before they are released and ensuring they align with the requirements and goals of advisors across the institution. Your responsibilities may include:

Technology Evaluation: When new technologies are proposed for integration, you may be asked to assess their potential impact on academic advising. This involves reviewing the features, functionality, compatibility, and security aspects of the proposed technology. You may also consider factors such as scalability, ease of use, and potential training needs for advisors.

Input and Recommendations: Based on your evaluation, you will provide input and recommendations to the executive committee regarding the suitability of the technology for academic advising. This could involve highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits or drawbacks of the technology. Your insights will help inform decisions on whether to adopt, modify, or reject the proposed technologies.

User Experience and Support: Consideration of the user experience is crucial in ensuring that technology effectively supports the work of academic advisors. You may provide feedback on the user interface, accessibility, and intuitive design of the technology. Additionally, you can contribute to discussions on support mechanisms, such as training resources, documentation, and ongoing technical assistance, to help advisors effectively utilize the technology.

Collaboration and Communication: Act as a liaison between the committee and academic advisors to gather their feedback, concerns, and suggestions regarding technology needs. Regular communication channels can be established to ensure that advisors' perspectives are considered in the decision-making process. You can also facilitate training sessions or workshops to introduce new technologies to advisors and address any questions or challenges they may have.

Continuous Evaluation: Technology evolves rapidly, and it is essential to regularly assess the effectiveness of integrated technologies. As a committee member, you can participate in ongoing evaluations to monitor the impact and satisfaction levels of advisors with the adopted technologies. Feedback loops and data analysis can help identify areas for improvement or potential adjustments to enhance the technology's support for advisors.

By actively engaging in these responsibilities, you can contribute to the selection, implementation, and optimization of technology solutions that empower academic advisors and enhance their ability to assist students effectively throughout the university.
