AP Spotlight: Alexis Schewe
This year the University’s Outstanding Academic Advising and Student Services Award is presented to Alexis Schewe, Senior Academic Advisor in the CLAS Academic Advising Center. Alexis was selected from an incredible group of nominees. Alexis Schewe embodies what academic advising is at GVSU. In addition to her advising workload, she coordinates the Mock MMI Interview, Health Care Experience Workshop, and Test Prep Courses for pre-professional students. She serves on our Early Assurance Program (EAP) Endorsement Committee, and is the lead coordinator for our Pharmacy Preferred Admit programs. She also advises three student groups outside of normal hours, demonstrating an incredible commitment to her students. One student stated, “I experienced many tough times in college-especially in the medical school application process. However, Alexis approached each of my concerns with hope. She made me feel like I could do anything.” Many students attribute their success in professional programs to her conscientious approach and willingness to go above and beyond in her work with them. We are ecstatic to recognize Alexis for her contribution to advising at GVSU.
