BSN Application: Interview

The Interview makes up 25% of the overall admission decision for both the Traditional and Second-Degree BSN programs and is conducted separately from the rest of the application. Interviewers do not have access to other materials, which ensures the focus remains on the student’s responses.

The Interview is the live, face-to-face component of the process, where students engage directly with reviewers. This is an important opportunity to share their story in real time, highlighting personal qualities, values, and experiences that may not come through on paper. Beyond grades and written documents, the interview provides valuable space to show presence, communication skills, and readiness to join the nursing profession.

What to Expect

The interview lasts 15 minutes. Students are asked five questions that are both behavioral-based and reflective, allowing them to demonstrate their experiences, values, and readiness for nursing.

Who Interviews

All students who meet eligibility requirements based on their application and grades will be invited to interview. Interviews will be conducted with one faculty member and one community partner.

Where It Happens

Interviews take place in person at the DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health. Details regarding the exact time and location will be shared with each cohort when appropriate.

When It Occurs

Interviews are scheduled approximately one month after the application deadline. Students will receive an invitation to sign up, and specific dates are included in the application materials.

Each semester, eligible applicants are invited to attend an interview preparation session before their scheduled interview. These sessions are here to help you feel more confident by walking through the logistics and sharing practical tips for getting ready.

This video provides an overview of the key topics covered in those sessions.
