Zoom Updates - August, 2021

New Updates to Zoom Web

  • Focus Mode: In Focus Mode, only the host can see participants’ videos and profile pictures. You can start Focus Mode from the “More” menu on the toolbar of the desktop client. This setting is available at the account, group, or user level setting pages. To use Focus Mode, you must have desktop client version 5.7.3 or higher for Windows or macOS.
  • Authentication exception for single instance of recurring meeting: If only authenticated users are allowed to join the meeting, account owners and admins can allow authentication exceptions for a single instance of a recurring meeting to allow guests to join the meeting. This feature can be enabled in the Meetings > Security Web Portal settings.

Changes to Existing Features

  • Custom archiving retention period for users: Account owners and admins can set a custom archiving retention period for users ranging from 1 to 30 days. Previously, the archiving retention period was 7 days and couldn’t be changed. Read this support article for instructions on setting a custom archiving retention period.
  • UI enhancements for Pronouns feature: When users add pronouns to their profile, the setting to share in a meeting or webinar no longer defaults to “Ask me every time.” Users must choose a selection for this setting before they can save their profile changes. If owners and admins map pronouns via SSO, then the default is “Ask me every time after joining meetings and webinars.” If the account does not use SSO, users can make this update in privacy settings. There is no change for users who have already set their pronouns.

Updates to Zoom Phone

Administrator Features

  • Enhancements to access reports: Account owners can export the access report as a CSV file. If they enabled email notifications for access reports, the report (CSV file) will be attached to the email.
  • Enhancements to Dashboard: Account owners and admins can view the top 10 extensions by call usage (for example, inbound, outbound, internal calls), or minutes usage (for example, international mins, Toll Free minutes).

Updates to Zoom Rooms

Management Features

  • Disable in-meeting chat for Mac, Win, Appliances, iOS zrc, and Android zrc: Admins now have the ability to enable or disable in-meeting chats from the Zoom Web Portal.
