The Information Technology Division is dedicated to driving excellence in project management in order to accelerate GVSU’s progress toward the vision of Reach Higher 2025.

Project management is the principal means of incorporating change in a business environment. It is important because it can help to ensure the right thing is delivered, that’s going to provide real value. Highlighted below are a variety of projects that are currently being facilitated that will help faculty, staff, and students efficiently navigate the way they learn, teach, and facilitate their work at Grand Valley.

Workday

In January 2024, the University will begin using Workday for Finance, Human Resources, and Payroll activities currently performed in Banner and supporting systems. This innovative initiative will modernize digital operations and improve organizational performance.

The GVSU Workday Journey website will be the central portal for information, updates, and resources that will be posted throughout the project.

Blackboard Ultra Migration

In Winter 2021, Grand Valley began the process of selecting a new learning management system (LMS). After extensive vendor demos, multiple faculty surveys, topic-specific working groups, and conversations with campus stakeholders, a decision was made to select Blackboard's Learn Ultra product.

Zoom Phone Implementation

We’re excited to announce the strategic decision to move to Zoom Phone, along with Five9 Call Center to replace our existing phone technology on campus. The Zoom Phone experience turns Zoom into a fully-featured communication and collaboration product, complete with voice, conferencing, messaging, and video in the same solution.

IT Projects

Microsoft 365 Migration

The Information Technology (IT) Division is actively executing our Digital Transformation strategy by modernizing our enterprise applications and moving email services to the cloud. Over the next few months, email accounts will be upgraded to Microsoft 365. As part of this migration, you will also receive the latest Microsoft 365 applications providing productive and secure collaborative applications and tools.

Identity & Access Management (IAM)

IT is reviewing IAM solutions that will provide a more seamless and improved experience accessing GVSU technology services through single sign-on, account automation, improved self-service, and rights and role management.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA provides an extra layer of security by requiring additional verification during the sign-in process.  IT is reviewing solutions that will integrate with all major campus applications to provide this additional security layer.

Future Projects

Digital Document Signing

IT has begun research to discover product solutions for a campus wide, secure method to sign and receive documents. Solutions could range from future decisions on product selections as well as add-ons to current vendor applications.
