Biography
As a health educator, mom, and DEI-AB advocate, Alisha began teaching at GVSU in 2009 after working for a decade in healthcare. She aspires to change the things she cannot accept in this world, as inequities are robust and innumerous. Alisha often utilizes the lens of healthcare to provide awareness, knowledge, and insight into subjects such as health disparities, implicit bias, microaggressions, and their pervasive adverse impacts on patients. As a facilitator, she hopes to foster self-awareness and motivate participants to be agents of change to work towards eliminating inequity in their own circles, as well as more globally. Congruently, as a mom, she wants to help remove systemic barriers that impede communities of color, thereby, creating a smoother passage for future generations. Alisha holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership, a master's in family and consumer sciences, and a bachelor's in community health education from Western Michigan University. Go Broncos!
