This introductory workshop will develop the capacities of current healthcare professionals, equipping them with tools and strategies to interrupt implicit biases and address microaggressions in pursuit of social justice and equity. During this training, time will be spent understanding microaggressions and implicit bias in a way that is designed to help participants understand the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral roots and impacts of biases and microaggressions. Facilitators will intentionally cultivate a learning environment that engages learners with diverse identities in dialogue and critical reflection, founded in the principles of building individual and group efficacy. Growth will be assessed via pre- and post-test assessments; this tier-one programming fits within the larger scope of ongoing training requirements for Health Professionals from the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
