Description
The contemporary world is a stressful place to live. This is
particularly true for those of us with one or more marginalized
identities and/or involved in advocacy and activism work. Chronic
stress can have devastating consequences on your body, your mood, and
your behavior. Taking time to create can have rejuvenating impacts on
individuals and our communities.
Each Mindful Making session will explore a different creative
technique for supporting personal and community well-being through
creativity and creative practice. Each session will be different, so
sign up for as many as you like! No prior experience required and all
materials will be provided. Just bring yourself and a willingness to
experiment and explore without judgment.
October: mindful stitching fabric collage
November: wood
burning
February: mini tapestry weaving
April: paper &
fabric collage cards
Engaging in creative activities has been shown to have multiple
positive impacts on well-being - and it doesn't always require
expensive supplies or more than a few minutes at a time. Come take a
break and make with us!
Learning Outcomes - Participants will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of caring for oneself, even as we advocate and care for others.
- Describe how creative practices positively impact our brains and nervous systems.
- Experiment with a new creative medium that promotes mindfulness and creative well-being
Presenters:
- AJ Young (He/Him/His, They/Them/Theirs) Coordinator of Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction
