Description

This two-part session explores how identity, leadership, and equity intersect. Participants examine the influence of social identity and implicit bias on leadership and reflect on the traits of shared equity leadership. Through case studies and exercises, they apply these concepts to real-world situations and develop personalized action plans. The session concludes with structured inquiry into systemic inequities in education, building skills to design and lead equity-focused change.

Space in this cohort is limited to 14 participants. Meetings will take place on the Pew Campus on the following dates/times:

  • Friday, May 15th: 10AM - 12PM
  • Friday, May 29th: 10AM - 2PM (bring your own lunch)

Learning Outcomes - Participants will be able to:

Identity & Leadership

  • Understand how social identity, implicit bias, and power dynamics shape leadership.
  • Reflect on personal leadership strengths, challenges, and opportunities for growth.

Inclusive Leadership in Action

  • Identify and practice traits of inclusive and shared equity leadership.
  • Apply leadership concepts to real-world contexts through case studies and self-assessment.
  • Develop a personal action plan grounded in the framework of shared equity leadership.

Advancing Educational Equity

  • Recognize systemic equity issues in educational practices.
  • Build skills in equity-focused inquiry and analysis.
  • Use observation protocols to critically analyze and plan for promoting educational equity at GVSU.
