CSAL Alum Featured as GVSU MLK Commemoration Week Keynote Speaker
December 08, 2025
Dr. Dar Mayweather, GVSU classes of ’07 and ’09 (M.Ed. in Higher Education), is a leadership studies faculty member at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. In that role, Dr. Mayweather empowers college students to identify their unique talents and articulate those strengths to industry leaders, ensuring they secure jobs or graduate school placements before graduation. Dr. Mayweather has been selected to serve as one of two keynote speakers for GVSU's 2026 MLK Commemoration Week events.
As a faculty member at UNCW, Dar helps students turn their academic opportunities into job opportunities by teaching them how to articulate their natural gifts and talents to industry leaders. He provides activities that help students explore their unique and meaningful leadership experiences. He aims to provide students with a clear path to leadership within their field of study. Dar’s teaching makes ALL students believe they are leaders by relieving them of their comparison to others. He uses real-world examples that help students identify their strengths and gifts and reflect on leadership activities that bring them closer to their why.
In 2016, Mayweather founded Good Mayweather Consulting LLC and the #doingthegoodwork brand to channel his passion for speaking and curriculum development. As a first-generation college student, Mayweather knows the challenges of navigating higher education without a roadmap and overcoming obstacles with the guidance of mentors and a supportive community. As a professional speaker, Dar teaches leadership strategies so that colleges and university stakeholders can close the gap between their intention and action. He helps organization leaders and students learn and practice inclusive leadership frameworks that equip them with the tools to understand their leadership superpowers, have the confidence to open critical conversations, and take action to create change with peers, supervisors, and more!
Dr. Mayweather will give a presentation on January 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center. This event is free and open to the public. It will also be livestreamed. His presentation will follow a silent march on the Valley Campus, which will begin at 4 p.m. with participants assembling at Zumberge Hall.
