CSAL Graduate Advances Equity and Student Success Through Expanded Role at Michigan College Access Network (MCAN)

Jamie Storey, PhD, was recently named Senior Director of Student Success at MCAN, where she serves as MCAN's primary systems-change strategist related to student success. Following an internal reorganization designed to strengthen MCAN's operational effectiveness and deepen support for Michigan's postsecondary education ecosystem, Dr. Storey now oversees MCAN's Higher Education Innovation and Educated Workforce departments and collaborates closely with the Advising and Coaching team. In her role, she champions equity-centered, student-ready strategies that transform the conditions in which Michigan students persist and complete postsecondary education--targeting policies, practices, relationships, power dynamics, mental models and resource flows across higher education and workforce development. She also leads cross-sector collaboration and builds the capacity of leaders and departments to work beyond individual-level supports, embedding systems thinking to create coordinated statewide impact that reshapes Michigan's education-to-career landscape.

Prior to this role, Dr. Storey served as the inaugural Director of Higher Education Innovation at MCAN for 2 years. Dr. Storey has over two decades of experience supporting student success and college completion at Central Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Davenport University, and Saint Martin’s University. Her roles have included advising and success coaching, career development and exploration, first-year programs and orientation, and academic success strategies. Jamie has devoted her career to helping enhance the lives of others through advocacy, relationship building, and projects that promote educational attainment. She has taught college learning strategies and first-year experience courses, as well as courses that focus on student affairs administration, higher education administration, and social class within higher education. Jamie has a particular passion for equity-based policy review and systems change implementation.

Congratulations on the new role, Dr. Storey, and good luck!
