Hauenstein Center Scholar-In-Residence Dr. Nicole Hemmer returned to GVSU to present our annual Presidents’ Day Celebration Lecture, in which she explored the topic of presidential accountability and the ways Americans’ perceptions of the presidency have changed over time.
The Hauenstein Center Scholar-In-Residence serves as a special expert resource for the Center and West Michigan community on the presidency and current events.

Nicole Hemmer
Nicole Hemmer is associate professor of history and director of the Carolyn T. and Robert M. Rogers Center for the American Presidency at Vanderbilt University. A historian specializing in media, conservatism, and the presidency, she is the author of two books: Messengers of the Right: Conservative Media and the Transformation of American Politics and Partisans: The Conservative Revolutionaries Who Remade American Politics in the 1990s. She is co-host of the podcast This Day in Esoteric Political History from Radiotopia.
A prolific writer and speaker, Hemmer regularly writes for leading national and international outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vox, and CNN.
