Lakers earn NCAA berths after sweeping GLIAC Tournaments

Grand Valley’s men’s and women’s basketball teams reached an historic milestone this weekend with their performances in the GLIAC Tournaments.

For the first time in 20 seasons, both teams swept their respective GLIAC Tournaments and secured berths in the NCAA Division II Tournament.

For the women (30-1, 19-1 GLIAC), the title marks their fourth consecutive GLIAC Tournament championship. For the men (25-6, 15-5 GLIAC), it is their first conference tournament title since the 2018-19 season.

It is also the first time since the 2018-19 season that both Laker teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Grand Valley women enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region, looking to defend their 2025 national championship.

The Lakers will host No. 8 seed Maryville in their opening round matchup. Tip-off is 5:00 p.m. on March 13 at the Fieldhouse Arena.

Tickets are available at the GVSU Ticket Office webpage.

With a win, Grand Valley would advance to face the winner of the Wayne State–Northern Michigan matchup on March 14.

The men earned their NCAA Tournament berth with a victory over defending GLIAC Tournament champion Northern Michigan on March 8.

As the No. 2 seed in the Midwest Region, Grand Valley faces No. 7 seed Ashland in the opening round on March 14 at North Canton, Ohio. If the Lakers win, they’ll meet the winner of the matchup between Michigan Tech and Lake Erie.
