Lakers back home for White Out game with West Texas A&M

Grand Valley opened its 2026 season with a convincing 38-10 win over Charleston and now turns its attention to its home opener. 

Grand Valley will host West Texas A&M at Lubbers Stadium on September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Thursday’s matchup is the first meeting between the teams since 2013, when the Lakers beat the visiting Buffaloes, 35-28. The Lakers are 3-0 all-time against the Buffaloes.

The Lakers moved up to No. 7 in the D2football.com Top 25 rankings following their win over Charleston.

Quarterback Andrew Schuster and receiver Kellen Reed led the offense, connecting for a pair of touchdowns in the first half — a 45-yard strike in the first quarter and a 20-yard score later in the second quarter. 

Schuster finished 19-of-28 passing with 244 yards and three touchdowns. Reed finished with five receptions for 133 yards and his two touchdowns.

West Texas A&M lost its season opener against No. 11 Western Colorado, 52-21. Quarterback Knox Porter led the Buffaloes’ passing attack, throwing for 353 yards and two touchdowns. 

Josh Lynn is in his fourth season as West Texas A&M's head coach. He led the Buffaloes to an 8-4 record last season, the program's best record under his leadership.

Season tickets, single-game tickets and parking passes are available through the GVSU Tickets website . Faculty and staff can also purchase half-price tickets for the game .
