Women’s cross country repeat as national champions

Women’s squad wins eighth national championship; men finish fourth

The women’s cross country team claimed its second straight national title, winning the 2025 NCAA Championship on November 22 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It’s the eighth title overall for the program.

The women’s team finished with 65 points, edging national runner-up Colorado School of Mines by four points. 

Five Lakers finished in the top-25 led by Abigail VanderKooi, who placed sixth overall with a personal-best time of 20:25.6. 

Lauren Kiley, who finished first overall at the 2024 championship, placed 11th in a time of 20:33.1. Allie Arnsman (20:43.9) finished 15th, Natalie Mello (20:46.2) came in 17th and Maggie O'Malley (20:50.5) placed 22nd. 

On the men’s side, the Lakers finished fourth, one point shy of third place Colorado School of Mines. 

Koby Fraaza was the top men’s finisher, placing fifth with his personal-best time of 29:50.4. Conor Somers also ran a personal best time, finishing in 19th in 30:21.6 while Báhozhóni Church placed 27th in 30:30.7.

In all, eight Lakers were named All-American: VanderKooi, Kiley, Arnsman, Mello, O’Malley, Fraaza, Somers and Church. 

“This was an incredible day for our programs," said cross country head coach Jerry Baltes . "Both squads had great execution to the race plan on a tough course. I am beyond proud and thankful of our student athletes, coaching staff and all of our incredible support staff.”
