No. 8 Lakers head north for GLIAC clash at Northern Michigan

No. 8 Grand Valley heads to the Upper Peninsula this weekend for its matchup with GLIAC opponent Northern Michigan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. October 11 in Marquette.

The Lakers improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the GLIAC with their 37-14 win over crosstown rival Davenport during Family Weekend. The win extended Grand Valley’s all-time series lead over the Panthers to 8-0.

The run offense powered Grand Valley as eight players combined for a season-high 254 yards. Quarterback Brady Drogosh led the team with 71 yards on eight carries.

“I’m extremely proud of this team’s response, especially coming out of the Pittsburg State game,” head coach Scott Wooster said, following the Davenport game.

“I absolutely love this team and their response to going to work. It’s a testament to our leadership.”

Northern Michigan continues to search for its first win of the season. The Wildcats are 0-5 and have dropped 27 straight games dating back to the 2023 season, with their last victory coming on November 12, 2022.

Running back Noah Dobert has been a bright spot for the Wildcats, leading the GLIAC in rushing with 493 yards through five games. Linebackers Jax Hertel and Mitch Larkin anchor the defense.
