One of the GLIAC’s top offenses will meet one of the conference’s top defenses when No. 7 Grand Valley meets Saginaw Valley for the annual Battle of the Valleys at Lubbers Stadium on October 18. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
Saginaw Valley (3-3, 2-0 GLIAC) brings one of the league’s most dynamic offenses, ranking second in the conference in total offense (437 yards per game), second in rushing offense (228.3 yards per game) and third in scoring offense (35.7 points per game).
Grand Valley counters with a defense that ranks third in the conference in total defense (294.6 yards per game), third in rushing defense (95 yards per game) and second in the GLIAC in scoring defense (16.6 points per game)
The Lakers (4-1, 2-0 GLIAC) enter the game following a 35-7 win over Northern Michigan last weekend. Grand Valley overcame a sluggish first half to dominate the Wildcats in the second half.
“Mindset is everything,” said GVSU head coach Scott Wooster, following the Northern Michigan game. “Defensively, we were in the right frame of mind and played great football. We’re really excited about the synergy of our three quarterbacks and the synergy of this football team playing together.”
Saturday’s game is also GVSU Football Kids Day, with the first 500 children receiving a GVSU youth football jersey. Reserved seating for the game is sold out with only lawn/standing room tickets available.
