Charter Schools Office honors 30 years through Impact 30 grant program

A grant initiative powered by GVSU’s Charter Schools Office honors the 30th anniversary of the office’s mission and provides a funding opportunity for its charter public school partners and members of the GVSU community to pursue new innovations within the next year.

Impact 30 encourages projects that advance student-centered learning through two grant tracks: one for GVSU-authorized charter school partners, and the other for GVSU faculty, staff and students.

For GVSU-authorized charter schools, 30 grants totaling $500,000 will be awarded. GVSU faculty, staff and students (with advisor support) can apply for 10 grants totaling $300,000 to pilot projects that strengthen teaching and learning practices in partnership with a GVSU-authorized charter school.

“GVSU has a long history of embracing innovations in K-12 education – like charter public schools – that create more opportunities for students, families and communities,” said Leah Breen, associate vice president for Education Innovation and School Services.

“Impact 30 aims to further that commitment by funding ideas that may break new ground, address current challenges and create meaningful connections between GVSU, our charter schools and communities.”

Impact 30 looks to drive cutting-edge projects across six focus areas, including experiential learning; college and career readiness; and health and environmental needs or awareness.

Projects that receive funding will be completed within six-18 months, depending on the scale of the proposed project. Applicants and project participants will also be invited to showcase their project outcomes at various conferences and community events.

Since GVSU authorized its first charter public school in 1995, the Charter Schools Office has collaborated with charter public schools to deliver innovative, student-centered learning experiences.

The application deadline for both grant tracks is November 19. Visit the Impact 30 website for more information .
