No. 1 Grand Valley heads to the Upper Peninsula for its GLIAC matchup with Michigan Tech on October 29. The Lakers kick off at 1 p.m. with the Huskies.

The Lakers improved to 8-0 after their 56-3 win over Northern Michigan at Homecoming last weekend.

Darrell Johnson was named the GLIAC’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Wildcats. Johnson had 172 total return yards, including an 87-year punt return for a touchdown, the second-longest in Lakers history.

“We came out emotionally ready to play against Northern Michigan, and I give our players a lot of credit for that,” said head coach Matt Mitchell. “We’re seeing the end stretch of GLIAC play with four games remaining, and this team has a lot it wants to accomplish.”

The Lakers and the Huskies have met 18 times since 2002 with Grand Valley winning 16 of those meetings. Michigan Tech’s last win over Grand Valley came in 2014.

“Michigan Tech played Ferris extremely close and played great defensively,” Mitchell said. “You can tell it’s a team with a very strong culture and is very competitive. I know we’re going to get that same kind of effort from them, and it’s going to be a physical game.”

Saturday's game will be livestreamed via FloSports, and is available online or via iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Chromecast. Lakers fans can register for a subscription at the GLIAC’s home page on FloSports
