The GVSU Family Health Center, operated by the Kirkhof College of Nursing, will offer free flu vaccination clinics for the campus community at several GVSU locations.

Tamara Van Kampen, practice manager at the GVSU Family Health Center, said measures that help protect against COVID-19 — such as distancing, wearing face coverings and washing hands often — can help decrease the spread of flu, similar to what was seen during last year’s flu season. She said it’s more important than ever to get the flu vaccine.

“COVID-19 has caused significant strain on our health systems, and during flu season hospitals may again become overwhelmed,” said Van Kampen. “This could seriously limit their ability to care for others who are seriously ill or injured as ICU beds, ventilators and hospital beds in general will be unavailable.”

There is no charge for the flu vaccine for Grand Valley retirees, benefit-eligible faculty and staff members and their dependents. Non-benefit eligible faculty and staff, and students can have their insurance billed for the cost of the flu vaccine, or use credit/debit or student account billing at any clinic.

Sign-up for a flu vaccine online. Daily self-assessments will be checked for a green heart and masks are required. More information is available online

Students, faculty and staff members can get flu vaccinations at the GVSU Family Health Center at 72 Sheldon Blvd. SE, during the health center’s hours without an appointment.
