While John Bowen was a patient in Spectrum Health's Meijer Heart Center in downtown Grand Rapids, he passed the time watching a crane operator outside his window working on the expansion of Grand Valley's Health Campus.

Through his binoculars, Bowen was fascinated by watching Robby Jernberg, a crane operator for Pioneer Construction, who is working on the construction of Grand Valley's Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health.

The Muskegon native went home March 19 after a two-week hospital stay. But, before leaving, he was surprised by a FaceTime call from Jernberg and a special send-off outside his window.
