Keri Becker, director of Athletics for Grand Valley, was appointed to a state task force charged with developing strategies to support girls and women in sports.

The 14-member Task Force on Women in Sports was established by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. It will be housed in the Department of State and chaired by Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

Becker said she views the task force as an opportunity to give back.

"I have stood on the shoulders of the women before me who paved the way for the opportunities I have had throughout my career," Becker said. "It is time that I do the same to ensure young girls have the opportunity to participate in sports, which will enhance important skills such as teamwork, leadership, drive, competitiveness and confidence."

Becker was named director of Athletics at Grand Valley in 2016; she had served as associate director of Athletics since 2011.
