President Thomas J. Haas presented the FIRST Robotics Engineering Scholarship to two incoming Grand Valley students March 24 during an opening ceremony of the FIRST Robotics Competition that took place on the Allendale Campus.

Nathan Siebelink, from Wyoming, and Bradley Stoetzer, from Curtis, will attend Grand Valley this fall. The scholarship is awarded each year to students who have been accepted to Grand Valley and are interested in an engineering career. The recipients have a history of participating in FIRST Robotics Competitions in middle and high school.

More than 1,000 students, including Siebelink and Stoetzer, on 40 high school teams from across the state gathered in the Fieldhouse for the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Competition from March 22-24. Teams had six weeks to design and build robots for the competition, which helps students get hands-on experience solving real-world problems and discover the excitement of science and technology careers.

The event is sponsored by the Seymour and Esther Padnos College of Engineering and Computing.
