Projects completed for West Michigan companies by the newest graduating class of engineers from Grand Valley State University will be on display at a special public event August 3.

The 20th annual Engineering Design Conference will take place from 1-4 p.m. in the Kennedy Hall of Engineering and Keller Engineering Laboratories on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus. About 20 projects completed by 130 students will be on display.

The event will celebrate the completion of the students' senior design projects and Grand Valley's partnership with local businesses, in which teams of students solve real-world engineering design problems. The event is open to the public.

The Order of the Engineer Graduate Ceremony will take place on the same day to celebrate the 130 graduating students. The event will include a keynote presentation by Grand Valley Provost Maria Cimitile. Engineering graduates at Grand Valley earn their degrees later than the traditional spring ceremony because they complete a year-long co-op experience with a company. The ceremony will follow the conference at 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Eberhard Center.

The conference and graduation ceremony are part of a week-long celebration that includes a co-op employer appreciation luncheon and a new event to welcome incoming students. On August 2, the School of Engineering will host the welcome event for 60 first-year students and their parents/guardians at noon in the Eberhard Center.

Students completed projects for the following companies this year: American Seating, DornerWorks, E3 Compliance, Flexco, Hutchinson, Koops, National Nail, ODL, OMT, Veyhl and PADNOS.
