Damon Arnold knows all about struggling with education, but he also knows about perseverance and empowering others.

Arnold, the director of academic services for Grand Valley's athletic department, was expelled from two high schools as a teenager, and ultimately graduated from a continuation school. Then, he said he realized that a rocky start didn't matter; what did matter was where he ended his journey.

On February 10, Arnold will be the featured speaker at a Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies Wheelhouse Talk where he will speak about failure, motivation and success, and his path from expulsion in high school to earning his doctorate in education administration from Washington State University.

Arnold has a passion for empowering others by sharing his personal story of struggle, grit and determination.
