Sketches

Mark Schaub, chief international officer, gave an invited presentation, “Four Decades of Commitment and Evolution: the Cracow University of Economics and Grand Valley State University Partnership,” at the International Conference: Partnerships Between Polish and American Universities in Warsaw, Poland.

Kate Stoetzner, director of international student and scholar services, received the Cooper Award for Excellence in International Student Advising from the Michigan International Education Professionals association.

Monica Harris, assistant professor of education, gave a presentation, "Evidence-based Vocabulary Instruction for Students with Learning Disabilities: A Research Synthesis," at the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children.

Allied Health Sciences faculty members Claudia Leiras and Alisha Davis gave a presentation, "Impact of Microaggressions on Health Disparities," at the Partners For A Racism-Free Community Forum Conference in Grand Rapids.

Dianne Slager, assistant professor of nursing, gave a presentation with students, “Kirkhof College of Nursing Exercise Intervention,” at the Evidence-Based Community Engagement in Nursing Conference at Calvin College.

Sandra Spoelstra, associate dean of the Kirkhof College of Nursing, gave a presentation, “Translating CAPABLE (Community Aging in Place for Better Elderly Living) in a State Waiver Program," at the Evidence-Based Community Engagement in Nursing Conference at Calvin College.

Kim Fenbert, affiliate professor of nursing, was elected president for the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners for a two-year term beginning on July 1.

Joy Washburn, associate professor of nursing, wrote an article, “A Room with a View," that was recognized as one of the top five "Patient Experience Articles for the Week" by the American Journal of Nursing.

Nancy Schoofs, associate professor of nursing, gave a presentation, “Mixed Methods Research on the Flipped Classroom," at the ATI National Nurse Educator Summit, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Danielle Lake, assistant professor of liberal studies, and students were authors of an article, "The Social Lab Classroom: Wrestling with and Learning from Sustainability Challenges," published in Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy.
