CSA program includes delivery of produce grown on campus

The Sustainable Agriculture Project kicked off its annual Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in late April, during the start of the growing season.

The program includes a weekly delivery of fresh vegetables, including salad mixes, tomatoes and cucumbers grown at the Sustainable Agriculture Project (SAP), located on Luce St. in Allendale.

Youssef Darwich, farm manager of SAP, said the program is growing; 37 shares were occupied last year, compared to 16 shares the year before.

Shares are available to purchase. Members can sign up for shares in 10-week increments.

SAP started as a student-initiated community garden in 2008. It has grown to include two hoophouses, a greenhouse and four acres of land. The project serves as a platform for experiential education on food systems and environmental science.
